Content based image retrieval (CBIR) is an area of active research for a over two decades. CBIR systems are based on simple metrics of similarity between a query image and a candidate drawn from the image data base. While a number of new features have been proposed and tried in laboratory settings, collectively they have not been applied in a single framework to deal with a large repository of images, or an application of persisting nature covering large volume of data. The challenge still persists in dealing with vast variations in the shape, scale, aspect and visibility objects and the imaged scenes. We will discuss that how to make CBIR capabilities to scale up to the vast scope and volume of images taking into account additional information wherever possible.
